Nomination Process

Who belongs in the New Zealand Speedway Hall of Fame? Do you know a Speedway Legend? Most people will already have someone instantly jump to mind. The only entry to the Hall of Fame is via nomination from a member of the public.

What: The New Zealand Speedway Hall of Fame was established in 2003. It’s prime objective is to honour outstanding people within the Speedway fraternity and inducts two living and two deceased nominees each year, typically in late September. The four inductees are added in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the traditional speedway classes of Solo Motorcycles, Sidechairs, Three Quarter Midgets, Midgets, Sprintcars and Super Modifieds.

Who: Persons nominated may be drivers or riders no longer competing, car owners, car builders, crew members, local and sanctioning body officials & race organisers, volunteers, media or anyone involved in Speedway.

When: Nominations are open all year round with an August 1st deadline for nominations to be considered for that years induction.

How: All new nominations are added to the existing nominations in the nominations library for consideration. If one or more nomination of the same person exists those nominations are combined. Nominated persons are judged on their combined nominations collective content only and not on quantity of nominations. There is no advantage to multiple nominations. Unsuccessful nominations from previous years are kept in the library for future induction.

Nominations for inductees are received and marked according to set criteria by an Electoral Committee of 5 individuals whom are unknown to each other to ensure the integrity of the selection process. Inductees are selected based solely on the content of the nominations and not on any external information including a Committee member’s personal knowledge or opinions.

Remember, the remaining unsuccessful nominations are returned to the nominations library for consideration in subsequent years. If you think your nomination only just missed out it has a good if not better chance of induction in subsequent years!

Nominations are open all year round. For your nomination to be considered for this year’s induction send before 1st August

What to add to your nomination?

A nomination needs to be detailed enough to be able to assess the person against the marking criteria – this includes their biography on how and when the person got involved with speedway. Their contribution, achievements, length of time in our sport, various roles served and any other connections with the sport.

A head and shoulder photo (preferred in racing clothing).

Recordings (still images, audio & video) are not required but will be accepted as part of a nomination.
